Confidence

Last updated on August 31, 2020

Ok so technically this wasn’t a prompt as such, but I’ve been looking into teacher training courses recently and this kind of struck a cord that made me want to jot down a little scene.

To be fair this would be a brilliant line to inspire a Chosen One kind of story, but this little nugget of a scene came out first.

So here, have something that’s a bit too long for a drabble and a bit too short for a piece of flash fiction.

Callum Simmons paused outside the closed door.

Eyes slipping shut, he breathed.

In through the nose.

Out through the mouth.

“Just breathe,” he murmured. “You can do this. Just breathe and remember who the fuck you are.”

Shoulders back, he stood tall.

“You are strong. You are confident.”

Brushing his thumbs over his fingertips he felt his magic tingling at the surface.

“You are a powerful Witch. You can fling a man a hundred yards with the flick of a wrist. Bring down a building with the click of your fingers.”

Opening his eyes, he glared at the unassuming door.

“I am confident. I am in control.

A final deep, calming breath and Callum stepped through the door.

…only to be speared by the judging gaze of a classroom full of teenage girls.

Goddess help him.

They were going to eat him alive.

If you like anything I’ve written, and feel like chucking some spare change my way like I’m some sort of street artist with an open guitar case before me, I’d be eternally grateful.
If that’s not your thing, then no worries, just ignore the red button.
